Murder Trial of Ulias Kornegay Begins with Opening Arguments

Opening arguments in the murder trial of Ulias Kornegay are set to begin today in Albany. Kornegay, a resident of Latham, is accused of fatally shooting 36-year-old Kwon Lillard in the parking lot of Ciro's Place on Broadway on May 24, 2024. The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument between Kornegay and Lillard.

According to WNYT, Lillard was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Kornegay was quickly identified as a suspect and was apprehended in Florida after fleeing the state. He has been charged with second-degree murder and was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court before being remanded to the Albany County Jail.

A jury of 12, with three alternates, has been selected for the trial, which is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. today. The panel consists of 10 men and five women. As reported by CBS 6 Albany, the trial proceedings will take place in Albany County Court.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the circumstances surrounding it. News10 reported that Kornegay's arrest followed a thorough investigation by Albany Police. The trial will determine whether Kornegay is guilty of the charges brought against him.
