A 19-year-old man, Keonvion Lipscomb, was arrested after a car crash in Albany led to a gas leak and evacuations on Tuesday (March 11). The incident occurred when police attempted to stop Lipscomb for several traffic violations. Instead of stopping, Lipscomb sped away, resulting in a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of Elk Street and North Lake Avenue. The impact caused the second car to hit a building, breaking a gas meter and triggering a leak.

According to the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, Lipscomb attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended and taken to the hospital for leg pain. He faces charges including reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, obstructing governmental administration, and reckless driving. The driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized with a head injury.

The gas leak prompted the evacuation of nearby schools. Students from Tony Clement Center for Education and Brighter Choice Charter Elementary School for Boys were relocated to other facilities as a precaution. No injuries were reported from the gas leak, and the area was secured by emergency services. Lipscomb is expected to appear in court today.
