Governor Kathy Hochul is set to meet with President Donald Trump today (Friday, March 14) at the White House. The meeting will focus on several pressing issues, including congestion pricing, infrastructure, and energy concerns related to tariffs. Hochul and Trump previously discussed these topics during their last meeting in February.
According to The Hill, the two leaders are expected to address the controversial Constitution natural gas pipeline, which New York blocked in 2020 over water permit issues. President Trump has expressed interest in reviving the project, claiming it could save families in New York and New England $5,000 in energy costs.
Congestion pricing is another major topic on the agenda. The program, which began in January, charges a $9 toll for most vehicles entering parts of Manhattan during rush hour. President Trump has criticized the program, while Governor Hochul has defended it, arguing that it reduces traffic and benefits local businesses. The New York Post reports that Hochul plans to continue discussions on this issue.
Infrastructure improvements, including a redesign of Penn Station, and energy tariffs are also expected to be discussed. The meeting comes amid tensions over tariffs imposed by Ontario, which have affected energy exports to the United States. Governor Hochul has criticized President Trump's tariff policies, but he remains firm in his approach.
As reported by FOX 5 NY, the meeting highlights the complex relationship between Hochul and Trump, who have clashed over various issues, including immigration and congestion pricing. Despite their differences, both leaders aim to address these critical matters during their meeting.
