Schenectady police are actively investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred on Friday night (March 14) on Lincoln Avenue. Officers responded to a call at 818 Lincoln Avenue at 7:57 p.m. and discovered 38-year-old Amanda Jaikaran with multiple stab wounds. She was treated by paramedics from the Schenectady Fire Department and transported to Ellis Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The suspect, 52-year-old Rance White, has been taken into custody and charged with several felonies, including second-degree murder, second-degree assault, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. According to police, White and Jaikaran were known to each other, though the nature of their relationship has not been disclosed.
White was arraigned in Schenectady City Court on Saturday morning and is currently being held in the Schenectady County Jail without bail. The Schenectady Police Department has stated that the investigation is ongoing and further details will be released as they become available.
The incident led to the closure of Lincoln Avenue between Hulett and Craig streets as authorities conducted their investigation. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any information related to the case to the police.
