A 39-year-old man from Rotterdam has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his mother to death. The incident occurred on Sunday evening (March 16) at a residence on Cobblestone Court. Police responded to a report of a stabbing at 7:20 p.m. and discovered the body of 79-year-old Catherine Haggerty inside the home. Her son, Patrick Haggerty, was present at the scene and taken into custody.
Authorities believe the stabbing resulted from a family dispute. Patrick Haggerty is currently being held in Schenectady County Jail without bail. The Rotterdam Police Department is continuing to investigate the case, with assistance from the State Police forensic unit.
