Queens Man Arrested in Schenectady Fatal Hit-And-Run

A tragic hit-and-run accident in Schenectady resulted in the death of eight-year-old Zion Delaney on Wednesday night (March 19). The incident occurred at the intersection of Crane Street and Chrisler Avenue around 7:38 p.m. when Delaney was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street with his brother. He was transported to Ellis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Conroy A. Simpson from Queens, fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after in the Woodlawn area of Schenectady. According to WNYT, Simpson has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a Class D felony, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. His bail was set at $250,000 cash or $500,000 bond.

The community is mourning the loss of young Zion, described as an intelligent and loving child. His mother, Sequoia Gamble, expressed her grief and desire for justice, stating, "My heart hurts and I hope we get justice because my boy wasn’t just nobody."
