In Schenectady, Conroy Simpson, a 29-year-old from Queens, appeared in court on Tuesday (March 25) in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident. Simpson is accused of striking and killing eight-year-old Zion Delaney at the intersection of Chrisler Avenue and Crane Street last Wednesday (March 19). He faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a class D felony, and operating a vehicle without insurance.

Simpson, who is out on a $500,000 bond, appeared before Judge Carl Falotico with his family present for support. His attorney, Jasper Mills, emphasized that Simpson has no criminal history and described him as a family man who is deeply affected by the incident. Mills stated that Simpson did not attempt to evade police and was unaware of the incident until contacted by authorities.

The case has now been transferred to Schenectady County Court. Meanwhile, the community mourns the loss of Zion Delaney, whose funeral was held on the same day as Simpson's court appearance. Zion's family, including his mother, Sequia Gamble, is calling for justice, expressing disbelief at Simpson's account of the events.

The Schenectady Police have not provided further updates on the investigation or any potential additional charges. The family has set up a GoFundMe account to support their pursuit of justice for Zion.

According to the Daily Gazette, Simpson's attorney maintains that he is heartbroken over the tragedy. WNYT reports that Simpson has cooperated fully with the police. News10 notes that the family is urging the community to come together for justice.
