The New York State Department of Transportation has commenced a $3.8 million bridge replacement project in White Creek. The project involves replacing the nearly century-old bridge that carries State Route 22 over White Creek. This vital travel route supports approximately 5,000 vehicles daily and provides crucial access to the Adirondack Region, facilitating the movement of agricultural goods.
The new bridge will be a single-span steel girder structure, designed to be higher and longer than the previous one. This design aims to improve water flow during severe weather and enhance the bridge's resilience. Additionally, the project will double the shoulder widths from four to eight feet, increasing safety for pedestrians and cyclists. During construction, traffic will be reduced to a single lane, with alternating flows managed by temporary signals.
Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez emphasized the importance of this project for maintaining community connectivity and economic growth. She stated, "This new bridge over White Creek is a vital travel route to the scenic Adirondack Region, and at DOT, we are focused on making sure our infrastructure is resilient, reliable, and ready to meet the challenges of the 21st Century."
The project is expected to be completed by December 2025, ensuring the bridge remains a reliable part of the state's infrastructure for years to come.
