In a significant drug bust, law enforcement seized approximately 2,700 bags of fentanyl during a search on Thursday (April 10) in Albany. The operation, part of an ongoing narcotics investigation, took place at a residence on Sherman Street. Officers also discovered 58 grams of crack cocaine, two loaded semiautomatic handguns, and a shotgun, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Darrell Perkins, 55, was arrested at the scene and is facing multiple charges. These include two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminally using drug paraphernalia. Following his arraignment in Albany City Criminal Court, Perkins was remanded to the Albany County Jail.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office conducted the search early in the morning around 6 a.m. The operation underscores ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the Capital Region. The seized fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, poses significant risks due to its high potential for overdose and addiction.

This bust is part of broader law enforcement initiatives to address the opioid crisis affecting communities across the United States. The investigation remains active, and authorities are working to determine the full scope of the operation.
