Two New York State Troopers are recovering after a shooting incident at the Ellsworth apartment complex in Malta on Thursday (April 10). The troopers were injured while responding to a domestic disturbance call involving 37-year-old Brandon Moore. According to authorities, Moore barricaded himself inside his apartment and refused to drop a weapon he pointed at officers. He was subsequently shot and killed by police.
Troop G Major Christopher Gilroy stated that police attempted to negotiate with Moore for over an hour before the situation escalated. Moore emerged from his apartment with what appeared to be a handgun, later identified as a CO2-powered BB pistol, and ignored police commands to drop it. The troopers, who sustained minor injuries, were taken to a hospital and have since been released.
The incident also affected the apartment complex, as the building's sprinkler system was activated, causing flooding and rendering the 75-unit building uninhabitable until repairs are made. Residents reported hearing gunshots and the fire alarm, with some expressing concern about when they could return to their homes.
The New York State Attorney General's office is involved in the investigation, as it is standard procedure when a person is killed by police. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities still processing the scene and determining whether Moore had access to firearms within his apartment.
