The FBI has arrested Devin Ravine, a 20-year-old from Riverside, California, on charges of sexually exploiting a child in Rensselaer County. Ravine, using the alias "Derek Johnson," allegedly contacted a 15-year-old girl through a dating app, where she had indicated she was a minor. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Ravine persuaded the girl to send explicit images and videos between March 30 and April 1.

The case came to light after the victim attended an FBI internet safety presentation at her school and reported the communications to law enforcement. FBI agents in Albany and Los Angeles coordinated to arrest Ravine within eight hours of the report. During a search of his residence, authorities recovered his phone, which confirmed his communications with the victim.

Ravine faces a minimum of 15 years and up to 30 years in prison, along with a potential fine of $250,000. He may also be required to pay restitution to the victim and forfeit any devices used in the offense. Additionally, Ravine would have to register as a sex offender upon release. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation.

United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III emphasized the importance of educating students about internet safety and encouraging them to report such crimes. The investigation continues, and authorities are working to bring Ravine to New York to face federal charges.
