The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) in Albany has announced a record-breaking achievement in its 54-year history. During the 2024 fiscal year, from April 2024 to March 2025, CDTA recorded over 18.4 million boardings, marking a 12% increase from the previous year. This milestone is attributed to successful partnerships with local businesses, schools, and organizations, as well as the operation of three Bus Rapid Transit lines.

Interim CDTA CEO Michael P. Collins expressed pride in the accomplishment, stating, "CDTA is proud of this achievement and is committed to providing mobility solutions to its customers in the Capital Region." Collins highlighted the increase in ridership across all mobility options, including a 4% rise in STAR services for people with disabilities, an 11% increase in FLEX On Demand, and an 8% boost in Northway Express ridership, according to CDTA's announcement.

The record ridership is also supported by CDTA's Universal Access program, which includes over 60 businesses, colleges, and universities. The program, along with the Bus Rapid Transit lines, has been instrumental in enhancing the transit system's reach and efficiency.

Throughout the fiscal year, CDTA undertook several initiatives, such as launching a pilot electric scooter rental program, offering free rides on election day, and opening a new mobility hub in Albany. These efforts have contributed to the increased ridership and reflect CDTA's ongoing commitment to improving public transportation in the region, as reported by NEWS10 ABC.
