Troy Man Faces 12 Years for Selling Cocaine Linked to Deaths

A Troy man, David Mathes, 28, has pleaded guilty to selling cocaine connected to two overdose deaths last year. The plea was announced by the Albany County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday (May 1). Mathes admitted to two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

The investigation began after two people died from overdoses within four months, leading the Watervliet Police Department to trace the drugs back to Mathes. He was arrested on September 3. According to NEWS10 ABC, Mathes faces a sentence of six years for each count, to be served consecutively, totaling 12 years, along with three years of probation. His sentencing is scheduled for June 26 at 9:30 a.m.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes in the region, emphasizing the severe consequences for those involved in the illegal drug trade.
