New York State Attorney General Letitia James announced plans to sue the Trump administration's Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) over proposed healthcare funding cuts. Speaking at a National Action Network rally in Harlem over the weekend, James criticized the administration for targeting programs that support vulnerable populations, including the Head Start program, Meals on Wheels, and the 9/11 Health Care Program for first responders.

James plans to collaborate with other Democratic attorneys general across the nation to file the lawsuit in the coming days. She emphasized the need to protect essential services that many Americans depend on. "The White House is threatening our way of life in so many ways," James stated.

The lawsuit will challenge the administration's decision to cut funding, which James argues is unlawful and politically motivated. The cuts have already led to staff layoffs and payment delays in the Head Start program and have reduced the scope of Meals on Wheels services. Additionally, funding for the 9/11 Health Care Program has been threatened, impacting those whose health was affected by the 9/11 attacks.

James has a history of legal battles with the Trump administration, having previously sued over policy changes and program cuts. Her office recently issued an announcement about a "new action" against the administration, expected to be filed soon.

The lawsuit will be supported by attorneys general from 15 other states, including California, Massachusetts, and Washington, who argue that the cuts violate federal law and threaten public health advancements. The coalition seeks to restore funding and ensure that the federal government follows lawful procedures in making funding decisions.
