Governor Kathy Hochul has introduced "Triple Three Triple One," a new real-time emergency and weather alert system for New York State. As part of Hurricane Preparedness Week, this initiative aims to enhance public safety by providing timely alerts directly to residents' phones. New Yorkers can sign up by texting the name of their county to 3-3-3-1-1-1. The system, managed by the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), is free to use, though standard messaging rates may apply.

Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of preparedness, especially as the Atlantic hurricane season approaches. The state is also distributing $15 million in flood-related equipment to counties and offering specialized training for emergency operations personnel. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will release the 2025 Hurricane Outlook later in May.

New York's new alert system is part of broader efforts to improve emergency response and public safety. The state has also established the State Weather Risk Communication Center at the State University of New York at Albany to enhance communication of extreme weather risks.
