Schenectady County is offering free naloxone training sessions to residents, providing a valuable opportunity to learn how to use the life-saving drug. The first training will take place on Tuesday (May 20) from noon to 1 p.m., and the second session is scheduled for Wednesday (May 21) from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Both events will be held at the Rotterdam Branch Library on Westcott Road in Rotterdam.

Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is a medication that can reverse the effects of opioid overdoses, potentially saving lives. According to Schenectady County's website, participants will receive a free naloxone kit after completing the training. The sessions will also cover opioid overdose prevention and provide additional public health resources.

For those unable to attend in person, Schenectady County offers no-cost online training through its website. The county emphasizes the importance of these sessions as overdose incidents continue to impact local communities and families. Anyone in need of immediate assistance can contact the 24-hour New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) Helpline at 877-846-7369.
