Governor Kathy Hochul announced that inflation rebate checks will be mailed to over eight million New Yorkers starting in October. These one-time payments, part of the recently signed state budget, aim to help with the rising cost of living. Eligible residents will receive up to $400 without needing to take any action. Joint tax filers with incomes up to $150,000 will qualify for the full amount.

The rebate checks are funded by increased state sales tax revenue due to inflation. Hochul emphasized that the money belongs to New Yorkers and aims to alleviate financial pressures. The checks are expected to cost the state approximately $2 billion.

According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the checks will be distributed over several weeks, and no specific delivery schedule has been provided. The state Division of the Budget noted that the relief targets middle- and working-class families.
