Thousands of runners and walkers will fill the streets of downtown Albany this evening for the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge. The popular three-and-a-half-mile race kicks off at 6:25 PM at the Empire State Plaza. Organized by the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC), the event is the largest running event in New York's Capital District and serves as a major fundraiser for the club. Proceeds support various initiatives, including college scholarships, grants, and the Just Run® Program, which encourages children to run for exercise and fun.
This year's beneficiaries are Unity House and Girls on the Run Capital Region. Unity House plans to use the funds to enhance opportunities for children through a traveling summer camp, while Girls on the Run will expand its programming to new sites, focusing on areas with high rates of childhood diabetes. Donations are still being accepted online.
Participants have the option to run in person or virtually, with a registration fee of $30. CDPHP, the event's primary sponsor for 18 years, offers a 10-week training program for beginners, which includes coaching and group runs.
Traffic near the race route is expected to be heavy due to a Kane Brown concert taking place at the nearby MVP Arena. Concertgoers are advised to allow extra time for navigating traffic and parking. Street closures will be in effect from Empire State Plaza/NYS Museum to Washington Park.
