Ronald Rayher, 70, from Milton took the stand to testify in his own defense on Thursday (May 15) in a case where he is accused of causing the death of Thomas Krider, a local Elvis tribute artist. Rayher faces charges of second-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence following Krider's death in April 2024.
According to the prosecution and defense, Krider died during consensual sexual roleplay involving a chloroform-like chemical. Rayher told the court that he and Krider had a consensual relationship and a contract for engaging in sexual activities. He recounted picking up Krider, administering chloroform during the drive, and taking him to his home in Milton. There, Krider signed a contract to participate in a sexual fantasy.
Rayher testified that he found Krider unresponsive in his basement and was unable to revive him. Despite noticing Krider's condition, Rayher did not report the death until four days later, citing anxiety and a desire to keep his sexual life private as reasons for the delay. "I was trying to distance myself from the situation," Rayher explained.
In addition to manslaughter, Rayher is charged with tampering with evidence for allegedly disposing of Krider's personal belongings. The trial is expected to conclude with closing arguments on Friday (May 16).
