A New York City resident, Cheick Diarra, has pleaded guilty to his involvement in a shootout that occurred in Albany last October. The 21-year-old from the Bronx admitted to exchanging gunfire with an unknown man on October 19, 2024, near Madison Avenue and Ontario Street. The altercation began after a dispute with the stranger, who drew a handgun, leading to both men firing shots at each other.

During the incident, another man was wounded and treated at Albany Medical Center. Diarra also sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and received medical attention. On Thursday (May 15), Diarra pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in Albany County Court. According to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, he is expected to receive a sentence of six and a half years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision, when sentenced on July 16.

The investigation into the shootout remains ongoing as police continue to search for the other suspect involved. CBS6 Albany reported that the incident occurred at around 4 a.m. and has been part of a broader concern over rising gun violence in the area.
