An Albany man, Jahmell Manso, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for his role in a fatal shooting that took place on Delaware Avenue last July. The incident occurred on July 9, 2024, during rush-hour traffic when Manso, 26, opened fire on a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Davyjian Grier. The shooting resulted in Grier's death after he was struck multiple times and crashed his vehicle into a parked car at a Stewart's Shop parking lot.

According to the Albany County District Attorney's Office, Manso approached Grier's car on foot in the City Square Plaza parking lot and fired 13 shots. The chaotic scene was captured on video, showing bystanders scrambling for safety as Manso continued to shoot while Grier attempted to drive away. Manso was later identified through surveillance footage and was apprehended in Virginia on December 11, 2024, with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Manso's plea was entered before Judge William Little, and he is scheduled to be sentenced on August 26. He faces a potential sentence of 18 to 20 years to life in prison. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney and Major Crimes Bureau Chief Joseph Brucato. The Times Union reported that no one else was injured in the incident, though a female and two children were in the car with Grier at the time of the shooting.
