The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is bringing back the Nature Bus for its fifth year, starting Saturday (May 24). This free service connects Albany residents to natural sites around the area and will run for 20 Saturdays through October 4.
The Nature Bus is a collaborative effort with the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy (MHLC) and aims to provide the community with access to green spaces. Some of the destinations include the Tivoli Lake Preserve and Farm in Albany, Thacher State Park in Voorheesville, and the Albany Pine Bush Preserve's Six Mile Waterworks Park. Additional locations include the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail in Slingerlands and the DEC’s Five Rivers Environmental Education Center in Delmar.
According to the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, the Nature Bus will offer a variety of educational programs at each location. Activities range from guided hikes to arts and crafts, providing engaging experiences for visitors.
The Nature Bus service is made possible by funding from several organizations, including the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Division of Communication, Education and Engagement, the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission, and the Natural Heritage Trust.
