Two Arrested in Albany on Weapon and Drug Charges

Two men are set to appear in court today after being arrested on felony weapon and drug possession charges in Albany. Albany County deputies conducted a traffic stop on Eagle Street on Thursday (May 22) and discovered a loaded handgun and cocaine intended for distribution in the vehicle. The driver, 31-year-old Joseph Cooper, and his passenger, 36-year-old Izmehel Marrero, were both taken into custody.

According to CBS 6 Albany, Cooper faces multiple charges, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second and Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth and Seventh Degree. Marrero is charged with similar offenses, including Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree.

Both men were transported to the Albany County Correctional Facility and are scheduled for arraignment in Albany City Criminal Court today (May 23). The arrests were part of the Albany County Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort.
