Schalmont CSD Mourns Loss of Senior Eric Paulus

The Schalmont Central School District in Rotterdam is mourning the tragic death of 18-year-old Eric Paulus, a high school senior who was struck and killed by a train early Monday morning (May 26). The incident occurred around 2:13 a.m. near Putnam Road, according to the Rotterdam Police Department.

Eric Paulus was just weeks away from graduating, making the loss even more poignant for the Schalmont community. The district released a statement expressing their deepest sympathies to Eric's family, friends, and all who knew him. "Eric was a wonderful young man, and our entire Schalmont community sends our deepest sympathies," the statement read.

To support those affected by this tragedy, the school district has made counselors and social workers available to students, families, faculty, and staff. The district emphasized their willingness to help, stating, "We ask our community to please not hesitate to ask if there is anything we can do to help now or in the future."
