Drivers in the Capital Region are seeing a slight decrease in gas prices. According to Triple A, the average cost for a gallon of regular fuel is now $3.08, down one cent from last week. However, this is still three cents higher than a month ago. The state average stands at $3.12, while the national average is slightly higher at $3.14.
The current national average of $3.137, as reported by AAA, reflects a broader trend of fluctuating gas prices across the country. In comparison, states like Vermont have an average price of $3.081, while New Jersey and Delaware are slightly lower at $3.012 and $2.939, respectively.
According to a LendingTree analysis, gas prices have decreased by 11.5% year over year as of May 15. This trend is evident in the drop from an average of $3.61 in April 2024 to $3.19 in May 2025. Despite the recent decrease, gas prices remain a concern for many consumers, especially when compared to historical highs.
