Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) in Troy, New York, has appointed Dr. Michael Brophy as its new president. The State University of New York (SUNY) Board of Trustees approved his appointment on Tuesday (June 3). Brophy, who has served as president of Hilbert College near Buffalo, will assume his new role on August 1.

Dr. Brophy brings over 35 years of experience in higher education to HVCC. He has previously held positions as president of Benedictine University and Marymount California University, and served as dean and executive officer at the University of Wisconsin Baraboo campus. He also worked as associate provost at Long Island University and dean of enrollment at SUNY Canton. Brophy is a Fulbright recipient and has taught at various universities and colleges.

His appointment follows a national search that began last fall, involving numerous meetings and interviews with the campus community in February. Brophy expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, "I am deeply honored to be entrusted with the leadership of Hudson Valley Community College which is an institution widely recognized for creating opportunity, empowering students, and driving regional workforce development."

Brophy replaces former president Roger Ramsammy, who was terminated last year following a sexual harassment complaint. Ramsammy's departure was part of a series of management changes at HVCC, including the recent resignations of two top officials, Christian Donal and Kate Better, amid allegations of waste, fraud, and abuse related to capital construction.

The appointment of Dr. Brophy marks a new chapter for HVCC as it continues to navigate these changes and prepare for future growth and development.
