An investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of a fire that broke out at an apartment building in Halfmoon. Firefighters responded to the blaze at the Knox Woods complex on Tuesday (June 3) around 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they encountered heavy smoke and flames spreading from the outside of the building to the main structure.
According to Halfmoon Fire Chief Tony Bonventre, a second alarm was called, and nine departments were dispatched to the scene. Despite the intensity of the fire, which was visible from Adirondack Tire on nearby Route Nine, all residents evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported. The fire was brought under control in about an hour.
The building housed approximately ten units, with all apartments suffering smoke and water damage. Half of the units experienced more significant damage. The American Red Cross is currently assisting displaced residents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no definitive conclusions have been reached yet. Chief Bonventre confirmed that efforts to determine the cause are ongoing.
