Memorial services for Robert Bornt, the Hoosick Falls Fire Chief and New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) supervisor, are scheduled for Saturday (June 7). Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town of Hoosick Armory, followed by a service at 6 p.m. at the Hoosick Falls Fire Station.

Bornt, 54, passed away on May 30 at Albany Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle in a work zone on Route 7 in Pittstown. The incident occurred on May 29, and the driver involved stayed at the scene. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing, according to Spectrum News.

Bornt was a dedicated public servant, serving not only as a fire chief but also as a member of the Hoosick Rescue Squad and CSEA regional union president. He was known for his love of coaching softball, hunting, and snowmobiling. NYSDOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez expressed her condolences, emphasizing Bornt's commitment to keeping New York's roads safe and urging drivers to be cautious in work zones, as reported by NEWS10 ABC.

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department also mourned Bornt's passing, acknowledging his contributions to the community. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hoosick Falls Fire Department or Hoosick Rescue Squad through the Mahar Funeral Home in Hoosick Falls. Attendees of the memorial services are encouraged to park at the Hoosick Falls Central School parking lot and take a shuttle to the armory, as detailed by LocalSYR.
