As early voting for the June primary begins tomorrow, New York's Attorney General's Office is launching an Election Protection Hotline to assist voters. The hotline will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the early voting period, which runs through June 22, and on Primary Day, June 24, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Attorney General Letitia James announced that the hotline aims to help voters with issues related to in-person voting, absentee ballots, and early mail ballots. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) will also provide a guide to address frequently asked questions regarding voter registration and absentee ballot requests.
"Access to the ballot box is the foundational right of our democracy," said Attorney General James. "Our election protection hotline will be available to address challenges voters face and provide helpful guidance, regardless of whether they choose to vote early, by mail, or on election day."
Voters experiencing issues can call the hotline at (866) 390-2992 or submit a complaint online. The hotline is staffed by OAG attorneys and staff who will process calls and written requests for assistance. The OAG has operated this hotline since 2012, fielding numerous complaints and working with local election officials to resolve issues.
The hotline is part of the OAG's broader efforts to ensure accessible and equitable elections, including enforcing the New York Voting Rights Act. For more information, voters can visit the OAG's election hotline guide.
