The "No Kings" protests are scheduled to take place across the Capital Region on Saturday (June 14), coinciding with President Donald Trump's military parade in Washington, D.C., which marks both his 79th birthday and the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. The protests, organized by the 50501 Movement, aim to counter what they describe as authoritarian actions by the Trump administration.
Protests will occur in Albany, Troy, Guilderland, Colonie, and Saratoga Springs, among other locations. Organizers expect millions to participate in nearly 2,000 events across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The protests are a response to the military parade, which will feature tanks and military vehicles, and are seen as a show of dominance by President Trump.
According to Axios, President Trump dismissed the protests, saying, "I don't feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get stuff approved." Meanwhile, the New York Civil Liberties Union describes the protests as a response to increasing authoritarianism and corruption.
The protests will emphasize nonviolent action, and participants are encouraged to de-escalate any potential confrontations. The flagship march and rally will be held in Philadelphia, highlighting the contrast between the grassroots movement and the military parade in Washington, D.C.
