Troy residents will learn the new location for City Hall today (June 17). The city has been leasing space at the Hedley Building on River Street since 2012 but plans to end this arrangement. Mayor Carmella Mantello has emphasized that the new City Hall will be fully accessible, aiming to better serve seniors and people with disabilities.

The decision to move comes after years of discussions and attempts to find a permanent home for City Hall. The current lease situation has been costly, with Troy defaulting on $176,316 in common area maintenance charges in 2024. First Columbia, the landlord of the Hedley Building, claims that the city missed a deadline to terminate the lease early, potentially binding them to the lease until 2029. However, Mayor Mantello's administration asserts that they have lawfully exercised their option to terminate the lease by 2027.

The move has sparked mixed reactions among Troy residents. Some support the decision, while others, like lifelong resident Bill Dallas, find the current location convenient. City Council President Sue Steele expressed concerns about the transparency of the process, stating that the council has not been informed about the new location.

The announcement of the new City Hall site is seen as a step toward a more efficient and fiscally responsible future for Troy. Mayor Mantello aims to have the new facility operational by January 2027, signaling the end of a long-standing rental situation.
