The village of Scotia is considering reducing the speed limit on all non-state roadways from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour. Village trustees are expected to introduce a measure soon, aiming to curb speeding and enhance safety within the community.
According to The Daily Gazette, the proposal is part of a broader initiative to improve road safety in the Capital Region. The village trustees hope the change will deter speeding and reduce accidents.
Previously, the New York State Department of Transportation agreed to lower the speed limit on Mohawk Avenue from the Western Gateway Bridge to Vine Street, but this change has not yet been implemented. The official agenda for the upcoming village board meeting includes a proposal for new 25 mph speed limit signs, indicating that the measure is gaining traction.
The move aligns with efforts in other communities to address speeding concerns and promote safer streets for residents and visitors alike. As the village trustees prepare to introduce the measure, residents and local officials will be watching closely to see if the proposed changes will be enacted and how they might impact daily life in Scotia.
