A man named Sergio Proietti is facing multiple charges after allegedly kidnapping a five-year-old boy in Gloversville on Friday (June 20). The incident occurred when Child Protective Services (CPS) and police arrived at a home to enforce a temporary removal order for the child.
According to the Gloversville Police Department, Proietti, claiming to be a family friend, showed up at the residence while CPS officials were speaking with the child's mother. Believing he had left, authorities continued their work, but Proietti re-entered the home through a window and took the child.
A citywide search was initiated, involving the Gloversville Police, State Police, and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. They found Proietti and the child unharmed at another residence in Gloversville about 90 minutes later. Proietti was arrested and charged with second-degree kidnapping, custodial interference, obstruction of governmental administration, and endangering the welfare of a child.
He was arraigned in Gloversville City Court and is currently held at the Fulton County Correctional Facility on $7,500 cash bail. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are looking into Proietti's relationship with the child. Further details are expected as the case develops.
