Albany Memorial Hospital suspended all patient services on Thursday (June 26) following a significant disruption to its electrical system. The issue occurred during a routine chiller test, which compromised the hospital's fire detection systems and led to an evacuation of the building, according to Spectrum Local News.
St. Peter's Health Partners, which manages Albany Memorial, stated that the hospital's emergency department is currently on diversion. They are actively coordinating the safe transfer or discharge of patients throughout the facility. People in need of emergency care are being directed to St. Peter's Hospital in Albany or Samaritan Hospital in Troy.
The suspension of services does not affect the medical office building on Shaker Road or other St. Peter's facilities. News10 reported that updates will be shared on St. Peter's social media accounts as the situation develops.
St. Peter's Health Partners emphasized their commitment to restoring operations safely and swiftly, with the health and safety of patients and staff as their primary concern. WNYT noted that the hospital is working diligently to resolve the issue
