In Albany, Trooper John Schroeder of the New York State Police is being celebrated for his heroic actions that saved a life. Today, Schroeder will receive the Certificate of Extraordinary Action from the Red Cross during a ceremony recognizing his bravery.
The incident occurred on Interstate 88 in Cobleskill, where Schroeder responded to a tractor-trailer accident. Upon arrival, he found the driver bleeding severely from an arm injury. Without hesitation, Schroeder climbed onto the truck and applied a tourniquet to the driver's arm, a critical action that helped stabilize the victim until they could be transported to the hospital.
The Red Cross awards the Certificate of Extraordinary Action to individuals who demonstrate exceptional courage and quick thinking in emergency situations. Trooper Schroeder's actions exemplify the dedication and bravery of law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line to protect and serve the community.
