The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive today (July 8) at the Rivers Casino and Resort Schenectady Event Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The organization is urging residents to donate blood, particularly Type O, which is in short supply. This drive is part of an emergency call for donations due to a significant shortage following the Fourth of July holiday week. According to the American Red Cross, there were 17,000 fewer donations than needed last week, leading to less than a two-day supply of Type O blood.
Appointments can be made online, but walk-ins are welcome. Each donor will receive a pair of Red Cross sunglasses while supplies last. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
