Another tragic incident occurred at Great Sacandaga Lake in Broadalbin on Sunday (July 6) when a man drowned while attempting to save his girlfriend. The couple, both in their twenties from Schenectady County, faced trouble after their inflatable boat tipped over. The woman was rescued by a couple on a pontoon boat, but the man, who tried to swim to her, drowned in the process.

The New York State Police Dive Team recovered the man's body on Monday (July 7) after the Fulton County Sheriff's Office Sonar Unit located it. According to New York Upstate, the tragic event unfolded near the Broadalbin Boat Launch. Sheriff Richard Giardino thanked the Good Samaritans who assisted in rescuing the woman and recovering the inflatable boat.

This incident follows another tragedy less than two weeks ago when a 21-year-old woman died after her jet ski collided with a boat on the same lake. Sheriff Giardino emphasized the importance of boater safety, urging individuals to wear life jackets, limit alcohol consumption, and follow safety protocols to prevent such tragedies.

Multiple agencies, including the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and local fire departments, assisted in the rescue and recovery efforts. The name of the man who drowned has not been released pending notification of his family.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate the incident, reminding the public of the importance of safety measures while enjoying water activities.
