Joseph Munafo, a 61-year-old man from Schenectady, pleaded guilty on Wednesday (July 9) to unlawfully recording over 1,000 intimate photos and videos of a female coworker without her knowledge. The incidents occurred between July and October 2023 at various locations in Albany and Colonie. Munafo admitted to two counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance in Albany County Court before Judge Roger McDonough.
According to the Times Union, Munafo was initially charged with 11 counts of unlawful surveillance but pleaded guilty to two counts. The victim reported Munafo to Colonie police on October 24, 2023, after witnessing him recording her. Munafo turned himself in to authorities in January 2024.
The Albany County District Attorney's Office stated that Munafo faces a potential state prison sentence of two to six years, with sentencing scheduled for September 5. Assistant District Attorney and Special Victims Unit Bureau Chief Ariel Fallon is prosecuting the case.
Munafo's actions involved filming the victim at multiple locations, including near Columbia Circle East Drive, Washington Avenue Extension, and White Pine Drive in Albany, as well as at the Karner Road Post Office in Colonie.
News10 reported that Munafo's attorney, Kevin O’Brien, mentioned that Munafo retired from the Post Office, though it was unclear if his retirement was related to the charges.
