Troy officials have announced a significant decrease in crime rates, attributing the success to Operation Sentinel and community cooperation. Since its launch in June 2024, Operation Sentinel has focused on reducing gun violence, drug trafficking, and other illegal activities. Over the past year, the initiative has led to 79 arrests, 12 search warrants, and the seizure of six firearms, nearly $16 million in cash, and substantial amounts of illegal drugs.

Mayor Carmella Mantello and Police Chief Dan DeWolf highlighted the impact of the program during a press conference on Wednesday (July 9). According to city officials, shootings have decreased by 51% compared to last year, while violent crime is down 16% from 2024. Property crime has also seen a 25% reduction. "We’ve taken a community-first approach that prioritizes results, partnerships, and strategic enforcement," said Mayor Mantello.

The success of Operation Sentinel is also supported by the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative, which has contributed to a 42% decrease in shootings involving injury since 2023. Police Chief DeWolf emphasized the importance of community cooperation, stating, "These numbers reflect the tireless work of our officers and the value of strong community cooperation."

The city has also implemented other measures to improve public safety, such as increased fines for illegal dirt bikes and e-bikes, and initiatives like Team Hero, which focuses on character development and gun violence prevention for young people. The efforts aim to create a safer environment and discourage criminal activity in Troy.
