Muhammad Adnan Saeed, the owner of Sublime Medical Transportation in Schenectady County, has been sentenced to three to nine years in prison for defrauding the state's Medicaid program. Saeed, 40, was found guilty of grand larceny in the second degree after investigators discovered he had fraudulently inflated claims, resulting in over $700,000 in stolen funds.

According to the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office, Saeed billed Medicaid for individual rides that were actually unauthorized group rides. Investigators determined that 85% of his claims were fraudulent. Additionally, Saeed paid kickbacks to Medicaid enrollees to use his company’s services, further compounding the fraud.

Saeed's fraudulent activities extended beyond Medicaid. He also collected more than $60,000 in state unemployment insurance benefits while simultaneously running his company and earning $88,500 as a driver. As part of his sentence, Saeed is required to pay nearly $767,000 in restitution.

CBS6 Albany reports that Saeed's sentencing follows his guilty plea in January. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat Medicaid fraud and ensure that funds are used appropriately.
