Residents of Troy are invited to a public meeting tonight (July 16) to discuss the future of City Hall. The meeting, held at the Italian Community Center on Fifth Avenue, begins at 6 p.m. and will focus on plans to relocate City Hall to the historic Proctor's Theatre on Fourth Street. This move is part of a broader effort to preserve the landmark and reduce financial burdens on taxpayers, according to Mayor Carmella Mantello.

Mayor Mantello emphasized the importance of community input, stating, "We want the community to be our partner in shaping what this new, permanent City Hall will look like." The renovation plans include transforming the theater into a modern government center, complete with a new assembly hall and a historic lobby featuring artifacts celebrating Troy's history.

The relocation comes amid a legal dispute with the current City Hall landlord, First Columbia. Despite concerns, the city is confident in its decision to terminate the lease early. "Our corporation counsel has assured us that we did everything according to that lease," Mantello said. The city plans to complete the move by January 1, 2027.

Additional meetings are scheduled for July 23 and August 13, providing further opportunities for residents to ask questions and share their ideas. More details will be available on the city's website and social media channels in the coming weeks.
