Starting today, Victory Church in Albany is launching a new initiative to reduce gun violence by introducing a gun buyback hotline. This effort allows individuals to turn in illegal firearms in exchange for Nike sneakers and Visa gift cards. The hotline, reachable at 518-434-6100, ensures anonymity as no questions will be asked about the surrendered weapons. The hotline number will be prominently displayed in targeted areas throughout Albany.

The initiative, led by Pastor Charlie Muller, is part of a broader effort by Victory Church to engage the community and address the rising gun violence among youth. According to readMedia, the church has previously hosted similar buyback events and is now focusing on encouraging young people to participate. The church has a history of community engagement, having recently hosted a "Safe Summer" initiative that included giveaways of sneakers and bikes to promote peace and safety in the community.

News10 ABC reports that Victory Church's efforts come in response to recent violence in Albany, highlighting the need for more community outreach and action. The church aims to reach children and teenagers, particularly those from challenging backgrounds, to provide them with positive alternatives and support.

The buyback hotline is expected to be a key component in Victory Church's ongoing mission to foster a safer environment in Albany. The church plans to continue its Safe Summer series with more events and sneaker giveaways across city parks in the coming weeks.
