Loaded Gun Found in Diaper Bag Leads to Two Arrests

Two men from Schenectady were arrested after police discovered a loaded handgun in a diaper bag beneath a stroller on Friday (July 18). The incident occurred on Central Avenue in Colonie, where officers were investigating suspicious activity.

According to Colonie Police, Lieutenant John Rockwell and Officer Corey Friedman found a loaded Taurus 9MM handgun and two high-capacity magazines concealed within the diaper bag. The stroller also contained a two-month-old child.

The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Jose Rivera and 22-year-old Charles Jones, now face multiple charges. They are charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree for the loaded firearm, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree for the large-capacity ammunition device, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Both Rivera and Jones were arraigned in Colonie Town Court on Saturday (July 19) and were released under probation supervision, according to CBS6 Albany.
