Hunting and trapping licenses for the 2025-26 season are now available for purchase in New York. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced that licenses and Deer Management Permits (DMPs) are on sale as of Monday (August 4). The licenses are valid from September 1 through August 31 each year.

According to the DEC, hunters can purchase licenses online, by phone, or at any DEC license-issuing agent. To obtain a license, hunters need to provide contact information, proof of residency, and proof of hunter or trapper education certification or a copy of a previous license.

DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton emphasized the importance of these licenses in supporting conservation projects and ensuring sustainable wildlife resources. She also encouraged experienced hunters to mentor new hunters. The DEC's HuntFishNY mobile app offers hunters the convenience of displaying their licenses and privileges electronically, as well as reporting game harvests instantly.

For more information on purchasing licenses and the regulations for the upcoming season, hunters can visit the DEC's website or contact their call center, which operates extended hours during the hunting season.
