Brent Trimbell, a former part-time coach for a merged team between Jefferson Central School District and Stamford Central School District in Delaware County is facing serious allegations of child sex abuse. The 44-year-old has been indicted on 25 counts of child sex crimes by a Delaware County Grand Jury and is also facing federal charges related to the alleged abuse of four children.
The investigation into Trimbell began in June after the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint involving two minors. The allegations include forcible sexual contact and inappropriate sexual communications. According to NEWS10 ABC, Trimbell was initially arrested and charged with state offenses but was released on bail. However, after further investigation, federal authorities arrested him again, and he now faces federal charges of sexual exploitation of a child.
The U.S. Attorney's Office has stated that if convicted of the federal charges, Trimbell could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, with a maximum of 30 years, along with a fine of $250,000 and mandatory registration as a sex offender. Additionally, if convicted of predatory sexual assault, he faces a mandatory life sentence.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information related to Trimbell's activities to come forward. Both Jefferson and Stamford school districts have expressed their commitment to cooperating fully with law enforcement to ensure the safety of their students.
