A 42-year-old woman from Mayfield, Alison Martin, faces charges of animal abuse after authorities discovered 23 dogs living in unhealthy conditions at her home. On Wednesday (August 6), State Police arrested Martin, accusing her of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, as well as failing to provide proper sustenance.
The investigation began on Tuesday (August 5) when police responded to a welfare check request at Martin's residence. Upon arrival, troopers, assisted by the Mayfield Dog Control Officer, found the dogs living in unsanitary conditions, with some lacking access to water. Martin was reportedly running a non-profit organization called Heartwarming Hounds Dog Rescue from her home.
The dogs were removed from the premises and transferred to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society in Gloversville for care. Martin was processed and released with an appearance ticket for the Mayfield Town Court on August 26. The investigation remains ongoing, according to State Police.
News10 reported that Martin's arrest followed a tip-off about a potentially malnourished dog at the property. The case highlights ongoing concerns about animal welfare and the responsibilities of rescue organizations.
