Shane Daley, a 40-year-old man from Galway has been charged with cyberstalking after allegedly making threatening calls to the family of Brian Thompson, the murdered CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Authorities claim Daley left multiple harassing voicemail messages on a family member's work phone line between December 4 and 7, 2024, just hours after Thompson was shot and killed in midtown Manhattan. The voicemails allegedly expressed satisfaction over Thompson's death and suggested that his family deserved a similar fate.

Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III stated that Daley's actions aimed to amplify the family's grief and suffering. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the charges against Daley carry a potential maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Daley was arrested and appeared in court, where he was released under GPS monitoring. He is scheduled to return to court Thursday afternoon (August 14).

Thompson's murder, allegedly committed by Luigi Mangione, has sparked widespread discussion about corporate greed within the healthcare industry. Mangione, who has pleaded not guilty, is seen by some as a vigilante figure, highlighting public frustration with the U.S. healthcare system. The FBI is leading the investigation into Daley's alleged cyberstalking, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys from both the Northern and Southern Districts of New York handling the prosecution.
