Gas prices are decreasing across the Capital Region as Labor Day weekend approaches. According to AAA, the average cost for a gallon of regular fuel is now $3.07, a one-cent drop from last week and four cents less than a month ago. The state and national averages both stand at $3.15.
The steady decline in gas prices is providing some financial relief to drivers. The current prices are significantly lower than the $3.50 average seen in August 2024. This decrease is attributed to a stable oil market, which has kept prices steady throughout 2025.
AAA's recent updates indicate that the national average for a gallon of regular gas fell three cents to $3.13 last week, continuing the trend of lower pump prices seen over the summer. The cost of crude oil, which remains in the mid-$60s per barrel, plays a crucial role in maintaining these prices.
The NerdWallet analysis highlights that gas prices are at their lowest since summer 2021. Despite global economic news causing a slight rise in oil prices, the overall stability of the oil market has kept gas prices in check.
As Labor Day approaches, drivers can expect these favorable conditions to persist, offering a more affordable travel experience during the holiday weekend.
