In Albany, two local farmers markets will share over one million dollars in state funding through the Farmers' Market Resiliency Grant Program. Governor Kathy Hochul announced that Schenectady Greenmarket Incorporated and the City of Rensselaer will each receive $50,000 to enhance their markets and improve accessibility for consumers.

The funding is part of a broader initiative to strengthen New York's food supply chain and address food insecurity. Between 2019 and 2021, about 10 percent of New Yorkers experienced food insecurity. The grant program aims to build long-term resilience in the state's farmers' markets by supporting infrastructure improvements, online capabilities, and marketing efforts.

Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of farmers' markets as community hubs that connect consumers with local agricultural products. "Our farmers’ markets are some of our greatest assets in getting healthy, fresh, New York-grown food directly into the communities who need them most," she said.

The program, managed by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, offers awards ranging from $25,000 to $50,000. Funds are available on a rolling basis and are intended for projects that enhance market infrastructure and expand online sales capabilities. Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organizations, local governments, and educational institutions.

The grant program does not require matching funds, but applicants must operate or support farmers' markets in New York State. The project term began on April 1, 2025, and projects must be completed by December 31, 2025.
