Albany is taking a significant step towards demolishing the vacant Lincoln Square apartment complex. On Monday (August 25), Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced a $3 million grant to fund the demolition, which includes asbestos removal. The Lincoln Square towers, located on Morton Avenue, have been closed since 2023 due to poor infrastructure and rising maintenance costs.

The grant marks the beginning of the demolition process, paving the way for potential redevelopment of the site. The property could also be managed by the Albany Housing Authority in the future. The demolition of these towers is seen as a necessary step to improve the area and address safety concerns associated with the vacant buildings.

The announcement highlights the ongoing efforts to revitalize Albany's neighborhoods and improve living conditions for its residents. As the city moves forward with the demolition, community members and local officials are hopeful for the positive impact the redevelopment could bring.
